Why Triple Antibiotics are not all they are cracked up to be

Why Triple Antibiotics are not all they are cracked up to be

Triple antibiotic creams use mycins and myxins  (Neosporin® includes bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B, in a relatively low-molecular-weight patented base of cocoa butter, cottonseed oil, sodium pyruvate, tocopheryl acetate, and petroleum jelly - not something you'd want to put in your mouth or allow your kids to put into theirs).  It is very effective against certain microorganisms and certain strains of bacteria. The issues with Neosporin as an active antimicrobial and antibacterial ointment, however, are two fold:

1. The bacteria build an immunity over time to the antibiotics so they become less and less effective and actually weaken one's immune system during this time period.

2. These antibiotics are bacteria strain specific - so they only work effectively against certain organisms - and not against others. There is no known resistance build-up within the human body regarding the use of metal oxides (including silver oxides) such as there is with antibiotics.

Why does 3rd Rock's Silver Work so Well

3rd Rock Essentials chelated silver oxide is chelated (chemically bonded) with glycolic acid - an amino acid that bonds with the silver oxide and causes the product to be both bioavailable and bioactive. In addition, it contains a biopolymer known as chitosan, allowing for skin compatibility and causing the silver oxide to remain effective in reducing or eliminating bacteria on the skin for greater than 24 hours !

Other silver oxides are normally atomic ionic silver oxide particles made from silver nitrates or silver citrates and are usually in the form of colloidal particles (see, for example,  Sovereign Silver ®). These particles are extremely small and pass through the cells but do not attach to the cell walls.  They do not "stick" because they are not bioactive or bioavailable.  This "sticking" allows for the 3rdrock's chelated silver ions to be more effective (by orders of magnitude) because of the contact time they have with the cells.  Infected cells (cells infected with bacteria) that have more contact time with known anti-infection capabilities of the chelated silver oxide ions allow for these cells to "heal themselves" more effectively and rapidly than simple silver ions.

Comparisons of colloidal silver and Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can be made, in that they both have documented antibacterial and antimicrobial activity but they "wash through" the cells and the body much more rapidly and have much less "sticking" capabilities than the chelated silver oxide we provide.
